PostSubject: Standard Gym Rules   Fri Apr 18, 2008 6:29 pm

Gym Challengers,

Please read the following rules. They do not differ from your other battles much, but these rules will be enforced more severely. You WILL be punished if any rules are broken.

The following are settings that are to be used in all Gym Pokémon matches:

•Match Type: Level 100 Standard Play Only.
•Best of: 1 match (6 Pokémon each)

In addition, the following rules apply to all Gym matches.

•Species Clause: You may not have more than one of the same exact Pokémon on your team. This does not mean that using a team of all dragon/ground will be permitted against something like an Electric team. DON'T BE CHEAP and use doubles of each type if you can avoid it.

•Sleep Clause: No two Pokémon on either team may be put to sleep by their opponent at the same time. This does not include self-induced sleep techniques such as rest.

•Self KO Clause: If both players are on their last Pokémon, and one player performs a Self KO technique such as Self-Destruct or Explosion, and both players' Pokémon faint as a result, the player that initiated the move will be the loser of the battle. This does not include techniques or items that produce recoil.

•Evasion Clause: Any moves that increase your Pokémon’s evasion skills are banned from use. This is due to the simple reason that it brings the battles to a gamble, a luck draw, if you will.

•One Hit KO Clause: Any techniques that produce a One Hit KO on the opponent are banned from use. No horn drill, sheer cold, or fissure.

•Item Clause/Restriction is OFF: That means you may use more than one of the same item. Just try to refrain from six focus sashes. No hax items. They bring more of the luck factor into the game.

Keep in Mind: The use of any hacked Pokémon is strictly forbidden. This means Pokémon created by Pokesav or any other cheating devices even with legit stats are not allowed. If you are caught with any hacked Pokémon, your team is subjected to being banned for a certain period of time. If you refuse, an inspection of your team by an admin or moderator to check for hacked Pokémon will ensue. Or, if you are caught lying to an admin or moderator, a strict punishment will be enforced upon you.

Make sure your Pokémon are legitimately obtained before using them. If you got your Pokémon in the GTS, check them using IV calculators. Or, if you don’t completely trust yourself, ask an admin or moderator to engage in a trade – not for Pokémon, but to check the stats of your Pokémon to see if they are legitimate. Having no “legit” Pokémon available is no excuse, even highly competitive legitimate Pokémon are not that hard to obtain.
If you want to play with Pokémon teams that have all maxed out stats, there are online simulators that allow this advantage. If you wish to use

Note: Any team participating on this tournament level is subject to inspection of their Pokémon by CHIMCHAR staff at any time. If you cuss, or treat any member of the forum badly, you are subject to a ban for an appropriate amount of time.

Addendum by S-Face: If a gym leader asks you before the battle terminates, for a trade afterwards to check for hacked pokemon, you MUST accept the trade within 30 seconds or you do not get the badge.  If you disconnect after the battle, and the gym leader had asked you beforehand for a trade, he/she has the discretion to not award you the badge as well as disallowing you from challenging his/her gym for a certain period of time.  This is important because we do not want people to be able to get away with winning gym badges by using hacked pokemon.

What if the gym leader wants to have a Open lvl battle or lvl 50, can they?

Level 50 is fine. Open is bad, since it gives one player advantage due to level differences (which in turn is a stat difference).

People that have level 100 pokemon for real are typically people who hack for rare candies. Open is for people who want to take advantage of unfair levels that give you a stat advantage.

Then playing open could give others an unfair advantage over you. Level 50/100 6v6 is STANDARD wifi play.

All my pokemon are, from early 50's to early 60's; so I am quite the average trainer... For the moment...
lol!

If you play in wifi you know that your pokemon will be moved up to level 100 automatically with stat changes to match. Don't take my rules without credit when you're a gym leader, AND don't amend them to say you want a "free battle" when they are cheap ways of saying, "If you only train your pokemon until EVs are obtained, you're screwed!"

Caitie If I have a team is
Tyranitar Rock,Dark
Zapos Flying, Electric
Dragonite Dragon,Flying
Gliscor Ground,Flying
Garchomp Dragon,Ground
And Steelix Steel,Ground

Could i use this team?

If not it is hard making a team that doesnt have another type in it, you would have to get a Poke from every type just to face a Gym Leader cause you cant have more than one type with you

Firstly, I hope this is only an example team because with your weakness to ice attacks, you're limiting your ability to win in a gym.

The team isn't balanced at all. I can't see a way of it working at all, unless you had hax or brute force on your side.

For the sake of the trainer, I'd say no. That team equals easy win.

It all depends on the leader's preference. I don't mind one double, but if you're actively trying to make your win by an impossible double, you're being an idiot and cheap at the same time. To be a good trainer is to have a good, well-balanced team.

I would not accept you to use Shoddy.
I dont use Shoddy and I expect MANY people not to use shoddy.
So therefore you will not get a lot of challengers then..

I have heard numerous questions/complaints or something of that when it comes to these two rules. When I look at them, I see certain restrictions so by me I'm usually pretty smooth about it. I'll explain~

Evasion Clause.
Now I know that this is to mean that moves such as Double Team, Sand Attack, Minimize, etc. are banned (and for good reason) but what about the held item, BrightPowder?
BrightPowder
• Effect: When held by a Pokémon currently in battle, it lowers the accuracy of the opponent.

Now it doesn't say that it continuously lowers the accuracy like using Double Team a million times, it simply increases your evasion by 10%. The same sort of effect happens when Sandstorm or Hailstorm is in effect on a pokemon with the ability Sand Veil or Snow Cloak. Under these conditions, it raises their evasion 10%. Or lowering the accuracy of the opponent.
So is BrightPowder a banned item? If so, then pokemon who have the above mentioned abilities should be banned as well to include Sandslash, Cacturne, Dugtrio, Gliscor, Glaceon, Froslass and Mamoswine.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One Hit KO Clause.
The reason why people decided to ban OHKOs is that they claim that "they require no skills" or "They're just about luck". But luck is part of the game, so are skills. You might as well ban critical hits because they're about luck.

One Hit KO's are to include the moves-
Fissure
Guillotine
Horn Drill
Sheer Cold

Now, I never use OHKO moves because of their low accuracy (30%), but there are two moves which change this. Lock-On and Mind Reader. Each "ensures the next attack does not fail to hit the target. " So it basically takes 2 turns to execute this move, ensuring a OHKO.

Let me stop there for a moment and focus on one of three things.
People say that OHKOs are cheap as they kill a Pokemon isntantly. But what about, lets say, Ice Beam? It can OHKO a Gliscor, so why isn't Ice Beam cheap when it can kill a Pokemon in one hit anyway? Ok, your Gliscor is Focus Sashed. It still takes two turns to execute you knocking out that Gliscor, same for setting up with Lock-On then Horn Drill.

Point two is that these OHKO's CAN be stopped. There's nothing saying they can't (short of these rules). There are several pokemon which have the ability Sturdy which says "The Pokémon is protected against 1-hit KO attacks."
Another one is the move Protect. "It enables the user to evade all attacks". I haven't tested this one but say one uses Lock-On, you preditct a OHKO move next so you use Protect. The OHKO misses.
Machamp has the ability No Guard and, its a complicated explination, but will always make OHKO's be blocked i.e. non effective.

Point three is that OHKOs can be stopped yet again by typing! Two of the moves (Horn Drill, Guillotine) are ineffective against Ghosts because they are the normal type. The other (Fissure) is ineffective against Flying-types! Regardless of using Lock-On or Mind Reader, which again states it will not fail to hit, they will not hit because they have nothing to hit.

All in all, I"m saying that OHKO's should not be banned IF the user has either Lock-On or Mind Reader as a first turn move.

*EDIT* Point Four! OHKOs can also be stopped by Substitutes! The OHKO will KO the substitute, but not you!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to talk about Quick Claw as well, but I need to do more research on it.

Basically to summerize, my points are-

Is BrightPowder allowed? Are One Hit KO's allowed by setting up with Lock-On or Mind Reader?

useing the rules with red words being my main points:

Caitie wrote:

•One Hit KO Clause: Any techniques that produce a One Hit KO on the opponent are banned from use. No horn drill, sheer cold, or fissure.

first awsner: the rules say any MOVES, simply because they can be used over and over again

second awnser: any technique because they show no skill in having an auto KO, and yes every fully evolved pokemon COULD learn subsitute(even Shednija, not sure how) but not all of them use it well, so a pokemon who can't use subsitute well has no counter for this

so in short if you read the rules, items that increase evasion is good, but 100% accuracy+OHKO is bad
but these are Caitie's rules so she might have the official anwser

There are only two pogeymon who can do the lock-on/mind reader OHKO combo so why is this such a big deal. It's not like you're going to see an increase in Smeargles and Articunos. Heck you might even use the first turn to set up (swords dance, sub, etc...).
