those are the president's powers/responsibilities, so he is responcible for keeping us safe(war wise), wether it be by keeping us in Iraq, or taking us out, (s)he needs to let congress know, (s)he needs to sign the bill to but us in or out, (s)he has more power than you are implying
so if you're "not actually gonna waste [your] time" be my guest, but i hold those non-voters with little to no respect
it's your country, your leader, and with NY having as many electoral points as it does, i suggest you make a vote David

Monkey

Monkey i'm very well aware what the president's powers are I've taken many government classes. He is commander in chief of the army but he needs Congress's approval to move the troops out with a 2/3 approval from both sections, which I doubt would happen since they had the past 5 yrs to pull troops out but could never come to do so.

The power of the president is more limited than most people think. It's the fact that he's the only member of his legislative branch that people think he has a lot of power but they are misguided. If our government were that centralized, our country woulda fallen apart a long time ago. However, people still look up to him because he is ONE man and they think he would represent them. They dont come think that his power is always in check especially by Congress.

Just because I don't vote does not mean i dont love America, that is completely erroneous. I love America too much. I just believe that politics is not somehting that is very important in my life, and my decision not to vote is warranted. I believe its all hype about trivial stuff really. =/

PS - my vote wouldnt change a thing, New York is still going to Obama, but i could give less of a damn. why? because it doesn't matter who the president is, i will still be an american

Actually Monkey. The president's powers are FAR more limited than meets the eye. First off. The president dosnt have enough power to make a law. That is the legisltive branches job. He can only simply ENFORCE laws given.
Quote :
(s)he has more power than you are implying
That is not true at all. The President exactly HAS THOSE POWERS. The system of checks and blaences was made so that each of the 3 branches and people of the government had the same ammount of power. If the president had more power than a branch. we'd start moving tword to a dictatorship.

Actually...this is unreasonable. If you look now. It can show the electoral votes per state. How many people tword what president. Say he did vote. As he said..it wouldnt make a difference. his state is already to obama. one vote cant change it, because that state has already pretty much made up its mind. Unless the state is a "battlefield" then maybe.

This polotic stuff is turning all into bickering fools...

Slow I disagree with your comment that this is "just" an election, this may be the most important decision of America's life and for yours slow. Obama, my only bit with him is that he was born in Kenya. The fact he like to confuse people with his persuasive speech also gives an advantage to McCain. McCain on the other hand is so much more weak, as he's lost his "fight" in Vietnam. Both would be a hinderence to a country at it's most crucial time of needing a savior. If I could choose.............Hillary Clinton!!!

BTW: Slow, you're EXTREMELY uneducated in politics, even in basic economics. What you need to learn, is that politics is a game, something that you can win. Obama knows how to play the game. The president CAN create a law and have it passed through the legislature(in a method by convincing the senate to vote on a law he forced legislature to create...blah, blah, blah). If you want to argue with ME, you might as well take it to court, because you'll never win here.

OK I'll break my promise to ask a question does America have a monarchist party as in a party that wants the queen to lead America for a while? even though that would be going backwards for America i think it could help.

Drew, do you actually know the difference between a certificate of Birth and a birth certificate? There had already been a birth certificate traced in Obama's name in a KEnyan hospital. Sorry to correct you.

BTW: OBama has some okay socialistic tendencies. I voted for Neither by the way

If barack were born in kenya, he would not be eligible for the presidency anyway. To be president, you have to be born on american soil.
