Trapinch is NOT the best revenger, and it never will be. It's true that it has base 100 Attack, but at the cost of almost NO Speed, and very low defenses. It's basically setup fodder once it takes down one foe. ScarfChoke, Sneasel, Metang and Kadabra all trump it at reveng-killing. Lemme put a few calcs.

Pikachu with Light Ball IS broken, I agree. But without it, it cannot stand up to OU NFE very well. OU NFE is an extremely offensive metagame, and Pikachu will very rarely find a chance to use Nasty Plot, and even if it did, the most common OU NFE threats, Magmar, Electabuzz, Sneasel, Kadabra and Haunter, still outspeed it (not to mention any Scarfed Pokemon). I can tell you now that Pikachu is not surviving an attack from any of those Pokemon.
I've been playing NFE for about 3 years now, and I've battled with both Pikachu and Trapinch. Trapinch is not a sweeper, but a tool to revenge kill ONE Pokemon on the foe's team who threatens the rest of your entire team; its Speed and defenses make it horrible set-up fodder, and it is very easily OHKOed. Pikachu without a Light Ball cannot stand up to OU NFE unless a very good amount of team support is used; any prepared OU NFE team can easily take Pikachu down.
